Per control plane, not per service

The unit of Konnect billing is the gateway control plane, not the service and not the call. Three control-plane types carry three prices: $25 per month serverless, $200 per month hybrid and $500 per month Dedicated Cloud, and Plus caps you at 5, 2 and 2 of them respectively. A Dedicated Cloud control plane is limited to one region on Plus and adds $0.15 per GB of bandwidth.

Four further meters run alongside. API requests: 1M included, $200 per additional million, hard cap 10M. Developer Portals: 1 included, a second at $200 per month. Published APIs: 2 included, $20 per month each for the first 10 total and $10 per month beyond, hard cap 20. Advanced analytics: first 1M requests included, $20 per 1M above that, 14 months retention. Metering and Billing adds $20 per million ingested events and 0.4 percent of billing volume up to $250,000; Kong Identity is $30 per million access tokens.

Plus includes dev portal, analytics and RBAC. Enterprise adds SSO, audit logging, unlimited gateways and portals, advanced governance and higher SLAs that Kong will not publish. Fully self-hosted deployments, where both control plane and data plane run locally, sit in a separate Gateway Enterprise offering that is also custom-quoted.

OSS to Konnect break-even

Kong OSS is free at the binary level. The break-even versus Konnect Plus is sensitive to your ops FTE fraction and to whether you already pay an EKS or Kubernetes platform line. With Plus now starting at $25 a month for a single serverless control plane, the entry price is low enough that the break-even is decided by the request and published-API meters rather than by the platform fee.

Recent change

Kong now publishes a fully itemised Plus meter rather than a per-service headline. Control planes are priced per type: serverless $25/month (up to 5), hybrid $200/month (up to 2) and Dedicated Cloud $500/month (up to 2, one region per control plane, $0.15 per GB bandwidth, 99.99 percent SLA). The Free tier has been replaced by a 30-day free trial with no card required.

Editor's note

Plus includes 1M API requests per month, then $200/month per additional 1M, capped at 10M/month. Developer Portals: 1 included, max 2, $200/month for the additional one. Published APIs: 2 included, then $20/month each for the first 10 total APIs and $10/month for every extra, capped at 20. Advanced analytics: first 1M requests/month included, then $20 per 1M, capped at 10M/month, with 14 months retention. Metering and Billing is $20 per million ingested events and 0.4 percent of billing volume up to $250,000. Kong Identity is $30 per 1M access tokens. Enterprise is quote-only, billed annually, and we will not infer it; fully self-hosted control plane and data plane sit in a separate Gateway Enterprise offering that is also custom-quoted. AI Gateway plugins layer on Plus or Enterprise (see /vendors/kong-ai-gateway).
